Go Tigers…oh wait, too late now?

I had the GREAT privilege to attend Game 3 of the World Series (Detroit Tigers vs San Francisco Giants), two weekends ago. It was a surprise gift from my boyfriend for my birthday the following weekend.

He couldn’t have picked a better gift – as many of you know, I am a huge baseball fan, and he is probably the sweetest boyfriend in the world too. Oh, and Zooey Deschanel sang the anthem, who I love!

What an amazing game – who knew “standing room only” meant that we could stand about 20 rows behind home plate (as seen in one of the pics below). The entire evening, I was wondering why the people in front of me spend so much more cash money for seats, when all they did was stand?!

So the game did not turn out so well for Detroit in the end, but I must admit, I have a secret crush on the Giants.

What a lucky girl, to see 2 of her favorite teams? …..whoops, does this slip mean I might not be such a great Toronto Blue Jays fan after all?

A perfect way to spend a summer afternoon…

These photos were taken from my iphone as I sat on a perfectly sunny and warm Saturday afternoon watching the Toronto Blue Jays WIN against the New York Mets.

What’s better than watching a good ol baseball game on a lazy summer afternoon?

Answer: Enjoying a BBQ on my rooftop patio after.

Quote for a Sunday – baseball

There are only five things you can do in baseball – run, throw, catch, hit and hit with power.

Savory Saturday – baseball styles

Baseball overload this weekend!

My cravings include pretzels, peanuts, pizza, hot dogs and licorice. Typical things I eat at the Skydome (ohhh fine, Rogers Centre to be politically correct).

Why not create a baseball friendly lunch today, at say around 1:05pm and tune in to my favorite baseball team?

Fine.

Here’s the recipe for today:

Chicago-Style Hot Dog (they do it right, just like their pizza!)

Ingredients

  • 1 all-beef hot dog
  • 1 poppyseed hot dog bun
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sweet green pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon chopped onion
  • 4 tomato wedges
  • 1 dill pickle spear
  • 2 sport peppers
  • 1 dash celery salt

Directions

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Reduce heat to low, place hot dog in water, and cook 5 minutes or until done. Remove hot dog and set aside. Carefully place a steamer basket into the pot and steam the hot dog bun 2 minutes or until warm
  2. Place hot dog in the steamed bun. Pile on the toppings in this order: yellow mustard, sweet green pickle relish, onion, tomato wedges, pickle spear, sport peppers, and celery salt. The tomatoes should be nestled between the hot dog and the top of the bun. Place the pickle between the hot dog and the bottom of the bun. Don’t even think about ketchup!

I won’t put the nutritional information down…your welcome.

Fantasy Friday – Cleveland, Ohio

I wish I was in Cleveland, Ohio this weekend.

Why?

Because the Blue Jay’s are playing baseball against the Indian’s as a welcome start to the baseball season!

If I were to go to Cleveland this weekend, what would I do aside from watching plenty of baseball…

Why not visit Cuyahoga Valley National Park and hike off all the hot dogs and peanuts I would be consuming at the game?

Here’s what the National Parks Service says about Cuyahoga Valley

Though a short distance from the urban areas of Cleveland and Akron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park seems worlds away. The park is a refuge for native plants and wildlife, and provides routes of discovery for visitors. The winding Cuyahoga River gives way to deep forests, rolling hills, and open farmlands. Walk or ride the Towpath Trail to follow the historic route of the Ohio & Erie Canal.

And it sounds as if a new hiking trail has been (or is being) created:

Metro Parks, Serving Summit County has finished construction of the new off-road route for the Bike & Hike Trail along Brandywine Road. A new trail bridge over Interstate 271 will soon be erected in three parts during evening hours. After the bridge is installed, the concrete decking will then be poured. Expected completion is end of June, 2012. Brandywine Falls Gorge Trail will remain open during bridge construction.

An urban national park…interesting…maybe it would be delightful!

PS – I hope my boyfriend doesn’t find out about all the train tracks he can discover around here…he loves those trains!

Go Jays Go!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

Happy baseball season!!

Could I be any happier?

Probably not…well, perhaps when I am on a flight to some amazing destination, or behind the wheel en route to Yellowstone…

Baseball – warm weather, good friends, pro athletes, tank tops, peanuts, wine (I can’t drink beer), BLUE JAYS!

My FAVS!

Jay’s start in Cleveland, vs the Indians today. The only downfall is that I will still be working, as the game starts at 3:05pm.

Think my school would let me skip class early and race home or to the nearest bar to catch the game?

I don’t think so…but at least I can catch part of the game!

My home opener tickets for April 9th are all ready to go. They have been sold out for such a long time now, but luckily my friend is on top of things and ordered a bunch of tickets as soon as they went on sale.

I have not missed a home opener game since I moved to Toronto, 7 years ago. They are a day I look forward to the entire year. That, and the last day of school 🙂

New logo, new vigor, new hope.

GO JAYS GO!
